Seiya Suzuki is off to a historic start with Cubs
It’s hard to imagine Seiya Suzuki’s MLB career getting off to a better start.
The rookie outfielder notched his first 2-homer game Tuesday afternoon in Pittsburgh, leading his team to a 2-1 victory over the Pirates. Yesterday, Suzuki reached base twice more, including an RBI single. All told, he has now hit safely in all five games to begin his big-league career.
This comes after he collected 4 walks and 3 hits in the season-opening series against the Milwaukee Brewers last weekend. His season batting line through Wednesday now sits at .400/.524/1.000 (1.524 OPS).
Not too shabby.
Historic, actually.
Suzuki’s 8 RBI and 4 walks through his first 4 career games set a new MLB record:
Seiya Suzuki of the @Cubs is the only MLB player with 8+ RBI and 4+ walks over his first 4 career games since RBI became an official stat in 1920.

Entering Thursday’s action, Suzuki leads all rookies with the three homers and nine RBI. And among all players, he ranks tied for second in homers and tied for third in RBI.
Quite the start for the 27-year-old right fielder.
