Tensions continue to bubble between Cubs-Reds in Cincinnati

2 years agoStaff Report

For the second straight day, Great American Ballpark played host to a tension-fueled game between the Cubs and Reds.

Wednesday night, Joey Votto started yelling at Cubs reliever Rowan Wick and later in the game, Patrick Wisdom was hit by a pitch. David Ross came out to defend his players and was ejected from that game.

Thursday afternoon brought about more of the same in the Cubs’ 20-5 loss.

After Willson Contreras homered earlier in the game, the Cubs catcher was hit by a pitch to lead off the 7th inning. He took exception and stared down Reds reliever Joel Kuhnel.

Ross came out to chat with the umpires again and was ejected for the second straight game.

Later in the contest, Wick and Votto once again squared off. Wick ended up striking out Votto and as both players were walking off the field, they wound up in a bit of a shouting match.

Contreras stepped in between and the issue was quickly dispatched before it became a benches-clearing incident.

The Cubs still have 15 more games remaining against the Reds and the two NL Central rivals meet again June 28 for a 3-game series at Wrigley Field.

Check out the full rundown of the events in the video above.
