The best moments of Cubs baseball on Independence Day

4 years agoStaff Report

With the red, white and blue colors worn on the Cubs uniforms and the colors of our country’s flag, we look back on memorable games from the Cubs played on Independence Day.

The Cubs won’t be playing a regular season game today, but they’ll be taking part in an intersquad game as Summer Camp continues at Wrigley Field. Manager David Ross admitted it’ll be a bit strange, but that won’t stop him from enjoying the day.

“You wake up and this is kind of one of those days that just screams America’s pastime,” Ross said. “It’s a different, it’s a unique day, but I’m trying not to look at it like that, I’m trying to look at the positives.

“We’re gonna have our first scrimmage of the day, so it’ll be a lot of fun. It’s a beautiful, nice, hot day here in Chicago, Fourth of July. Maybe the pitchers look really good, maybe some the hitters go deep, you know? There’s a lot of positives we can pull from the backside of today.”

Over 40 years of moments have been celebrated from first home runs in careers, walk-off’s from Ryne Sandberg and Mark Grace as well as dominant pitching performances from Rick Sutcliffe and Carlos Zambrano.

Without further ado, here’s some notable Cubs wins on the 4th of July in the last four decades:
