The Cubs absolutely drenched Nico Hoerner after walk-off walk

1 year agoTony Andracki

The Cubs had all kinds of celebrations going following their walk-off victory on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

Nico Hoerner stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded in a tie game in the bottom of the 10th and wound up drawing a game-winning walk.

In the ensuing chaos, his Cubs teammates crowned him with an empty bucket of bubble gum and drenched him with a healthy dose of water, ice and seeds.

Multiple times during Hoerner’s on-field interview with Marquee Sports Network’s Elise Menaker, the two had to take a break while more teammates came up to chip in with the celebration.

Hoerner was a big part of the Cubs’ comeback Sunday as he led off the 9th inning with a double down the right field line. He advanced to third base on a groundout and then scored the tying run on a single by Seiya Suzuki.

Then he came up in the 10th with the bases loaded and his patient approach helped lead to a crucial victory after the team dropped the first 2 games of the series against the Diamondbacks.

“That road trip I thought was really impressive and it revealed a lot of character about this group,” Hoerner told Menaker. “We got another big series coming up – they all are. We’re gonna embrace it and have some fun and go win some ballgames.”
