Triple allowed Schwarber to ‘get on the pillows and run around them’
Kyle Schwarber provided one of the early highlights of Cubs Summer Camp when he belted a triple off of Tyler Chatwood in Sunday’s intrasquad scrimmage. The Cubs left fielder shared how his new manager David Ross has emphasized baserunning and joked saying that Ross told him to get the trailer and take the hitch off as well.
“To be able to get on the pillows and run around them, I wasn’t expecting to go to third but I said ‘Screw it. I’m going to third, but just don’t hurt myself please,’” Schwarber said on Cubs 360 Summer Camp on Wednesday.
Despite the thrill of smacking a triple, Schwarber knows the top priority is the overall health of the team.
“I think that’s the biggest thing throughout this whole camp is to make sure that everybody is going to be staying healthy so we can make it to the season. Then we can go all out,” Schwarber said.
