Was acquiring Darvish and losing Arrieta the smart move?
Bruce Levine, Jim Deshaies and Pete McMurray joined Cole Wright on Cubs 360 Daily, presented by Miller Lite, to discuss whether or not the decision to let Jake Arrieta go in order to acquire Yu Darvish was the right choice.
McMurray questioned Darvish’s mental strength when he’s put in tough situations on the mound.
“When Jake Arrieta was in the game, you knew he wasn’t going to be a headcase…I would question the mental toughness of a player. If Darvish has a man on first and he walks the next batter…I’m nervous…With Jake Arrieta, no. I would never think that in a million years.”
Levine begged to differ.
“We saw one of the more dominant and confident pitchers in baseball last year in Yu Darvish. As far as Arrieta, his stuff is short. He’s not the pitcher he was. He turned down a 4-year, $88 million deal with the Cubs back in 2015 and 2016.”
