WATCH: Wrigley Field grounds crew members end up surfing on tarp after fall
The Tarp Monster was out for blood Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field, claiming not one but two different victims.
As the Cubs-Cardinals game went to the bottom of the 7th inning, the skies opened up and it started to pour at the corner of Clark and Addison.
The grounds crew hustled to get the tarp on the field and in the process, two separate members of the crew fell (and one fell twice!).
The first guy who fell initially tried to stand up on the fast-moving tarp but couldn’t get his footing so he just sort of surfed along for a while. He tried to get up at the end but slipped again.
The other grounds crew member fell and then clung to the handle of the tarp for the rest of the ride, letting the momentum from the rest of his team carry him to the finish line.
The Wrigley Field crowd was absolutely loving the moment, as it ended up eliciting one of the loudest cheers of the day.
The Cubs had just fought back to take an 8-6 lead in the previous inning. The game started with a 25-minute rain delay before weather struck the area again a few hours later.
