Can trio of pitchers have an impact for Cubs?

4 years agoStaff Report

In the 2020 MLB Draft, the Cubs selected three pitchers in rounds 2 -5 last night. MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis shared his opinion on which drafted pitcher he believes will make an impact for the Cubs on Cubs 360 with Cole Wright and Tony Andracki.

The Cubs drafted Burl Carraway in the 2nd round, Luke Little in the 4th round and Koen Moreno and in the 5th round of the draft. Out of these three pitchers, Callis believed Carraway is the pitcher that will make the fastest impact.

“He was the best reliever in the draft. Relievers used to go in the first round but that doesn’t happen anymore. They usually go in the third round and he went in the second round. I think he can be the first player from anybody’s draft that can get to the big leagues,” Callis said. “This guys’ stuff is good enough to get big league lefties out.”

Callis went on to talk about Little and how they can improve to make the Cubs roster.

“Luke Little I think is a reliever too. He had the famous twitter video where he threw 105. The key for him is what can he do besides throw hard. I think he’s a pure reliever, the velocity doesn’t last for more than an inning or two at a time before he dips down between 93 – 96, which is still good but there’s no history of throwing strikes and his secondary stuff is inconsistent,” Callis said.
