Willson Contreras had some extra fun in picking off Daniel Vogelbach

3 years agoAndy Martinez

Maybe it was a little inside-information for Willson Contreras.

With 2 outs in the 4th inning and runners on first and second, Contreras saw his former minor-league teammate Daniel Vogelbach taking a hefty lead off second base. So after an 0-1 pitch, Contreras whipped a throw to Jonathan Villar at second who tagged Vogelbach and end the inning.

“Once I picked him off, I was laughing,” Contreras said with a smile. “I told him the next at-bat ‘You should know better, that was a huge lead.'”

The back-pick is one of Contreras’ favorite plays to execute.

“I fell in love with back-piking guys,” Contreras said. “Every time that I get a chance, I will try.”
