With home run, Christopher Morel did something that no Cubs player in modern history has done
Christopher Morel made a bit of history in the Cubs’ 12-3 loss to the Phillies on Saturday.
Morel launched an 8th-inning home run off Connor Brogdon, his 7th of the season, all coming in his first 10 games of the season. Since at least 1901, no Cubs player has homered 7 times in their first 10 games of a season.
He’s also recorded at least a hit and a run in all 10 of his games, becoming the 13th Cub in history to do so.

The righty has been on an absolute tear since he was recalled from Triple-A, slashing .381/.409/.952 with 13 RBI and a whopping 261 weighted runs created plus in 44 plate appearances. His first 5 home runs of the season traveled at least 400 feet and today’s went 406.
Morel had eye-popping numbers with Iowa, too, hitting 11 home runs with 31 RBI and a 182 wRC+.
