Ben Johnson has strong words for Bears: ‘We should not be comfortable’
Bears head coach Ben Johnson is not taking his foot off the gas, even with the flurry of big-name, veteran talent joining the roster for 2025.
Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles took to the podium at Halas Hall for the second day running Thursday to introduce two more free agent signings in center Drew Dalman and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo. When asked about his plan to ease new players into his scheme, Johnson didn’t hold back.
“It shouldn’t be easy. This should be hard,” Johnson said. “Anything worth doing is hard. It’s going to take a lot of work, a lot of effort … we should not be comfortable.”
The Bears have made it a point this offseason to enhance the protection for quarterback Caleb Williams as well as improving the pass rush on the other side of the ball. Dalman and Odeyingbo both bring those respective skill sets and were top choices for Johnson and Poles in improving the team.

“Drew’s addition, along with Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson is really going to make the interior of our offensive line strong,” Poles said of Dalman. “With Dayo Odeyingbo, his ability to play the run and rush the passer from different locations is going to make our defensive line even better.”
Dalman joins the Bears after four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. There, he started 40 of 57 games and was considered the top available center in free agency this offseason.
“What I want to do most is add value to this team,” Dalman said. “The Bears are a historic team, this is an awesome town and it’s something that everybody wants to be a part of.”
Odeyingbo, who signed with the Bears after four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, has high aspirations for his time in Chicago.
“This city wants a Lombardi and I feel like that’s the goal for everybody in the building,” Odeyingbo said. “That was big for me in free agency – going somewhere that wants to win.”

Johnson will waste no time in getting his new players up to speed and with preseason fast approaching, it’s all or nothing for his first season at the helm.
“We’re going to load these guys up, see what they can handle,” he said. “We’re going to fail, and that’s okay. It’s going to be fun.”
