Caleb Williams received a powerful message from an unlikely source after another gut-wrenching Bears loss
CHICAGO — Caleb Williams looked on as the Vikings jumped up and down and raised their arms in triumph.
It was the 3rd straight week in which the rookie quarterback had to stand on the west sideline of Soldier Field and watch the Bears’ opponents celebrate on his home turf.
The Bears dropped their 5th straight game Sunday afternoon, though it would be extremely difficult to place much blame on Williams’ shoulders.
He threw for 340 yards and 2 touchdowns while also leading the team in rushing with 33 yards.
Williams’ performance is huge for the future of the Bears franchise but it also caught the attention of the opposite sideline.

After John Parker Romo’s game-ending field goal, Williams trotted on the field and stopped for a brief moment while Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell delivered a some encouraging words.
“His message was to keep going,” Williams said after the game. “‘Hell of a player, keep going, way to fight.’ And he said it sucks that he’s gotta go against me for a while but, ‘hell of a player. I’m excited to see you out there fighting and leading these guys.'”
Williams certainly would prefer to be on the winning end of a game like Sunday’s but he also was able to acknowledge the power that came from O’Connell’s words.
“Yeah, when you get a guy like him – his guys love him,” Williams said. “I have a few old teammates over there that talk about him and they love him. … He’s been a great coach so far. Those were encouraging words.”
In the loss, Williams set the Bears franchise record for most passing yards by a rookie quarterback.
Despite his efforts, the Bears are 4-7 on the season and have a short turnaround before going into the dome of arguably the best team in the NFL right now – the Detroit Lions – on Thanksgiving day.
