Bears receiver Keenan Allen got back to practice this week after an extended rest period to let his heel, well, heal. He was limited twice and a full participant for a slower, walk-through-style Friday session.
His availability for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams at Solider Field remains at least in some doubt. He was formally considered questionable on the Bears official injury report, which was released on Friday afternoon.

Head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters on Friday that the Bears believe Allen will be able to play in Week 4. That would be a boon for the Bears offense, considering his rare ability to get open fast on short and intermediate routes.
Allen wasn’t the only Bears starter to receive such a questionable designation. Defensive tackle Andrew Billings (knee) and safety Kevin Byard III (back) also have an uncertain playing status. Billings and Byard didn’t practice on Thursday and were limited on Friday.
While those guys don’t carry Allen’s star power, they’re essential parts of this Bears defense. Billings has been excellent on the interior season, adding some juice rushing the passer to his typically solid run defense. He would be sorely missed if he can’t go against the Rams, where interior pressure is essential against quarterback Matthew Stafford. He did tell NBC Sports Chicago that he was confident he’d be able to play.
Byard has been a glue guy in a formidable secondary, pairing well with Jaquan Brisker on the back end. We could see more of Jonathan Owens at safety is Byard isn’t available.
Right tackle Darnell Wright dealt with a back injury this week but will play. So will edge rusher Darrell Taylor who missed two practices dealing with an illness and a knee issue.
In addition, tight end Stephen Carlson (collarbone), defensive tackle Zacch Pickens (groin) and defensive back Terrell Smith (hip) were formally ruled out against the Rams.
