Greg Olsen praises Bears’ Ben Johnson hire, 2025 season outlook
Greg Olsen played 14 seasons in the NFL, and he has been an “NFL on FOX” color commentator since 2021. He has seen a lot of football, both on the field and in the booth.
So, when the former Chicago Bears tight end discusses the ins and outs of teams around the league, it carries a lot of weight.
Olsen recently joined Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast and expressed his optimism about the Bears’ 2025 season outlook, especially with Ben Johnson hired as coach.
“Ben Johnson was the guy for that job,” Olson said. “From the jump, everything Chicago has done in the last couple of years, and it hasn’t all been perfect and it hasn’t all been right, but the pieces they had the environment in which Ben Johnson was walking into, I thought Chicago had the most build in wins based on their current (roster).”

Johnson has taken over a talent-filled Bears roster that had high aspirations in 2024. Chicago was just moments away from a 5-2 start before things fell apart and coaching changes were made.
Olsen believes Johnson can transform the Bears into winners.
“How many wins are there just built into that roster?” Olsen said. “I thought just the development of Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze, DJ Moore. They have Cole Kmet. Now they draft Colston Loveland.”
Olsen was impressed not only with the players on last season’s roster but also with the offseason acquisitions to strengthen the offensive line.
“They continue to invest in the offensive line, although that could still get better,” Olsen said. “Like, all of a sudden now with Ben Johnson pulling the strings, that’s a real offense. That balance of offense and defense with Ben Johnson and his system put in place, there’s three or four wins built into that roster like that.”

The Bears struggled last season, but Olsen believes their roster construction was a big reason why Johnson choose the job.
“Ben Johnson to me was the belle of the ball. He was the coach everyone wanted for multiple years,” Olsen said. “… He had the opportunity to take a lot of jobs over the last couple of years, and he took Chicago, and that wasn’t an accident.”
