Ben Johnson’s Cubs fandom a key part in Bears’ schedule release video

1 month agoTony Andracki

Ben Johnson just wanted to enjoy a day at Wrigley Field, cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs.

That simple act set up the hijinks in the Bears’ 2025 schedule release video Wednesday night.

The video begins with Lamorne Morris — star of the hit comedy show “New Girl” — gaining access to the Bears’ schedule. Why? We don’t know, but it doesn’t really matter.

Morris somehow is tasked with sending the schedule to the first-year Bears head coach. We see Johnson call Morris while wearing a Cubs jersey, saying he needs an email of the schedule because he will “be at the game all day” — presumably meaning at Wrigley Field.

Morris then inadvertently sends the entire Bears schedule to every Ben Johnson in the team’s email marketing list, and hijinks ensue.

Johnson has talked several times of his Cubs fandom, including at his introductory press conference.

“There’s several reasons why I wanted this job,” Johnson said in January. “The first is this place — for the last 10-plus years, my family and I have been coming up for a Cubs series every summer, and it doesn’t take long to realize that this place is special. These people are special.”

Johnson wasted no time in making an appearance at Wrigley this season, throwing out the first pitch on the second homestand of the year.

It was a pretty solid first pitch, too.

Johnson and the Bears open the 2025 season on “Monday Night Football” against the Minnesota Vikings. They will visit Johnson’s former team — the Detroit Lions in Week 2 — followed by a Week 3 visit from the Dallas Cowboys to Soldier Field.
