Cubs’ Carson Kelly named to MLB Team of the Month after stellar April
Carson Kelly‘s hot start to the 2025 season has drawn attention from more than just Chicago Cubs fans.
The veteran catcher has been off to a torrid start in his first year with the Cubs.
He collected a pair of hits and drove in a run during Friday night’s blowout win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

That came after he hit .360 with a ridiculous 1.347 OPS during March and April. Kelly crushed seven homers and drove in 21 runs during his first 17 games of the campaign.
Those numbers were enough to earn Kelly a spot on MLB’s Team of the Month, as released Saturday morning:
Kelly joins some of the league’s best stars on the list, including New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso and New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge.
The Cubs have bumped Kelly up to the cleanup spot in the order when he starts and they are making an effort to keep him fresh by working young backstop Miguel Amaya in a regular rotation.

Kelly, 30, signed with the Cubs in the offseason to help address a catching position that did not provide much offense last year. Cubs catchers ranked 26th in MLB in 2024 with a .601 OPS and hit just 14 homers all season.
The Cubs knew they were adding a quality veteran in Kelly, but nobody expected an offensive explosion like this. He has more homers (seven) than strikeouts (six) and has walked 15 times to help support a .500 on-base percentage.
More than 80% of the season remains and Kelly’s pace is unsustainable — he won’t post a 1.300 OPS on the full year. But he looks to be well on his way to a career campaign and could top his best season in 2019 when he smacked 18 homers with 47 RBI for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
