Clay Matthews’ NFL draft night diss elicits quick, simple Bears response

9 months ago • Tom Prizeman

Clay Matthews certainly knows how to stir the pot, but the Chicago Bears were ready for him Thursday night.

Matthews, the former Packers All-Pro linebacker, took the stage at the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay and pretended that he had received a message from President Donald Trump, which he said he’d read aloud to the crowd.

“It says, My fellow Americans,” Matthews said, holding up a letter to the audience, “the Bears still suck!”

The partisan crowd outside Lambeau Field roared in approval of Matthews’ jab toward the Packers’ bitter NFC North rivals.

But the Bears were quick to respond with one simple photo on X, formerly Twitter.

The image of Cairo Santos celebrating after kicking the game-winning field goal at Lambeau in the teams’ last meeting proved the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words. The Bears had the last word that day, beating the Packers 24-22.

Matthews did dominate the Bears throughout his career, as Green Bay went 17-4 against Chicago during his 10 seasons in Green and Gold. He had six tackles and a half-sack in the Packers’ 2010 NFC Championship Game win over the Bears 21-14 at Soldier Field, and he also had 9.5 regular-season sacks of Chicago quarterbacks.

Next season’s Bears-Packers games might have a new level of intensity after Matthews provided some bulletin-board material.
