Cole Kmet on his love for the Cubs and playing alongside Caleb Williams

2 years agoTony Andracki

Bears tight end Cole Kmet loves to get out to Wrigley Field as often as possible throughout the summer.

On Wednesday’s off-day during Bears training camp, Kmet stopped by the “Friendly Confines” to make his debut throwing out the first pitch.

Beforehand, he stopped to chat with Marquee Sports Network’s Taylor McGregor about his love for the Cubs, playing alongside Caleb Williams and more.

“It’s my No. 1 team – I grew up loving the Cubs,” said the Lake Barrington, Ill., native. “When they won the World Series in 2016, that was like a marquee moment in my life. The Cubs hold a really special place in my heart.”

Of course, the hot topic surrounding the Bears right now is rookie quarterback Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in this past spring’s draft.

Kmet will be catching passes from Williams this season and provided an assessment of the rookie passer in camp.

“He’s been great,” Kmet said. “He’s been learning quickly. He’s obviously supremely talented and we’re really excited to see where he goes. So far, so good with Caleb.”
