Cubs 1B Michael Busch ‘locked in’, leads MLB in spring training
As nice as it may be playing baseball every day in the beautiful Arizona weather, the way Michael Busch is hitting, he’s ready for the regular season to start.
“I feel pretty good,” the Cubs first baseman told Marquee Sports Network’s Elise Menaker during Tuesday’s game. “Timing feels good. I feel like I’m having good at-bats.”
Hitting at a .500 clip (11-for-22) with a home run, 9 RBI and a 1.378 OPS in 8 Cactus League contests qualifies as having ‘good at-bats’. In fact, Busch’s 11 hits lead all of MLB during spring training.
With the Cubs’ season starting earlier from playing in the Tokyo Series on March 18-19 (both of which can be watched on Marquee Sports Network), Busch wanted to come into camp ready to go.

“I just felt like I was coming here with a little earlier spring training, a little quicker season, just kind of wanted to lock in pretty early,” Busch said.
Busch will have a few more games to stay locked in before the Cubs leave Arizona and head to Japan next Tuesday. With the trip just around the corner, the excitement is starting to creep in.
“Super excited just to get out there and experience Japan and be able to play some real baseball,” he said.

The Cubs will open the season with a two-game set against Busch’s former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in Tokyo, Japan. Busch was acquired from the Dodgers in January 2024, along with right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte, for pitching prospect Jackson Ferris and outfield prospect Zyhir Hope.
In his first season on the North Side, Busch clubbed 21 home runs — the most by a Cubs left-handed rookie (excluding switch hitters) since Billy Williams in 1961 — while playing stellar defense at first base.
