After historic run, Cubs reportedly set to promote Cam Smith to High-A

It didn’t take long for Cam Smith to prove to the Cubs he needs a new challenge at a higher level in the farm system.
Sunday marked the 6th straight game that Smith hit a home run for Class-A Myrtle Beach:
He had already set a Pelicans franchise record on Saturday with his homer in 5 straight contests.
Late on Sunday evening, a report circulated from ESPN’s Jesse Rogers that the Cubs were promoting Smith to Advanced Class-A South Bend:
In 14 games at Myrtle Beach, Smith hit an eye-popping .319/.411/.787 (1.198 OPS) with 6 homers, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored.
The Cubs made Smith the 14th overall pick in last month’s MLB Draft.
The 21-year-old third baseman had a monster season at Florida State this year, smashing 16 homers and 22 doubles with 57 RBI in 66 games to go along with a .387/.488/.654 slash line (1.142 OPS).
