David Montgomery describes ‘perfectionist’ mindset in Ben Johnson

1 month agoMatt Danielewicz

The Detroit Lions were one of the best teams last season running the football and that led to the dynamic duo of ‘Sonic and Knuckles’, better known as running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.

The pair helped the Lions average 146.4 yards on the ground per game last season and it was in large part thanks to offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

Johnson is a creative offensive mind that was a highly coveted head coaching candidate this offseason before the Bears made him the next head coach, keeping him in the NFC North.

In 2 seasons with the Lions after starting his career with the Bears, Montgomery has rushed for over 1,700 yards and 25 touchdowns.

While in New Orleans, Montgomery was asked by NFL Network’s Adam Rank about what type of coach the Bears would be getting with Johnson.

“They getting a perfectionist, a hard worker and somebody that doesn’t expect anything less than great,” Montgomery said of his former offensive coordinator.

Johnson has made it clear from his first press conference as Bears head coach to some Bears players about ‘getting comfortable being uncomfortable.’ That saying could go a long way as the Bears prepare for the 2025 season.
