How Bears can exploit Jaguars to keep winning streak alive
The Chicago Bears look to continue their winning ways as they kick off the Sunday slate of Week 6 action against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Through 5 weeks, it is a tale of two different seasons for both Jaguars and Bears. While the Jaguars have some playmakers of their own, Tom Waddle takes a deep dive into where the Bears can exploit the Jaguars on Bear Essentials.
“The Jaguars are pretty awful on defense across the board. They’re not bad stopping the run but their pass defense if you look at the numbers, they’re giving up 288 passing yards per game, which is dead last in the National Football League,” Waddle said on Bear Essentials. “They got a couple of decent pass rushers but their secondary is bad….There’s a big opportunity for this Bears passing game to take advantage of this Jaguars defense.”
One overlooked preview is the play of two No. 1 overall draft picks: Trevor Lawrence was the 2021 No. 1 draft pick and Caleb Williams is the 2024 No. 1 draft pick. Both quarterbacks statistics are similar this season; however, Waddle believes the matchup does not favor Lawrence heading into Sunday.
“I think Trevor Lawrence is obviously the more experienced and more accomplished quarterback, but he’s facing a Bears defense that is Top-10 across the board. So I think the matchup isn’t very good for Trevor Lawrence. When you flip it over and look at Caleb Williams, who’s making his 6th career NFL start, he doesn’t have the experience or the resume, but he’s facing that Jaguars defense that we just talked about that is pretty putrid. I would suggest that I like the matchup better Caleb vs. that Jaguars defense vs. Trevor Lawrence against our [Bears] outstanding defense,” Waddle said.
