Kevin Warren shared a great story of a fan’s influence on Bears’ Ben Johnson hiring

Since the Bears let go of Matt Eberflus in the middle of the season, fans have been very vocal as to who they wanted as the next head coach.

One fan even went so far as to make contact with Bears president Kevin Warren at dinner.

“I was at a restaurant the other night and someone sent me over a drink with a note – I saved it – that I have in my drawer,” Warren said on Wednesday. “I looked at it this morning – that says, ‘Please hire Ben Johnson’. (laughs) So, actually I saved it. I’m gonna give it to Ben and hopefully, if we do what we’re supposed to do, one day that note will be framed on (a) wall, someone’s wall. So, I know there was sentiment and support.

“But it is always special when there’s as much love by an organization and the people in the organization with the candidate. And you don’t know ’til you know, but then when you sit down and you say, ‘you know what, that this is really special’ and I just felt that it was meant to be. … And I felt that we have a unique opportunity to do something special.”

While Johnson hasn’t fully experienced what the Bears fandom is like just yet, he knows that that same energy radiates throughout Halas Hall.

“I haven’t truly felt that yet, but I’ll tell you what, coming into this building yesterday, and seeing the reception I had from all the members in this building, the staff – that was special, it certainly makes you feel a certain kind of way,” Johnson told Scott Bair of Marquee Sports Network.
