Bears rookie WR Luther Burden sends spirited message to rest of NFL

If you ask Luther Burden, the Chicago Bears got a steal when they selected him in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft at No. 39 overall.

He made that known during the Day 1 of the Bears’ rookie minicamp.

“Everybody who passed up on me gotta pay,” Burden told media at Halas Hall on Friday.

Burden’s slide to the second round was somewhat surprising — he was ranked the second-best wide receiver coming out of the combine. One scout called him “Jerry Jeudy but with Amon-Ra St. Brown’s hands and toughness,” according to NFL analyst Lance Zierlein.

When asked if he still had a chip on his shoulder over the skid, Burden’s response was curt.

“That’s staying with me forever,” he said.

Burden played his three college seasons at the University of Missouri, where he recorded 2,263 receiving yards and 25 total touchdowns with the Tigers.

The St. Louis native was a five-star recruit out of Cardinal Ritter Prep, where he played with Detroit Lions breakout wide receiver Jameson Williams.

In his first NFL season, Burden is joining a dynamic receiving corps that includes DJ Moore, Rome Odunze and free agent addition Olamide Zaccheaus.

“I definitely hit them up,” Burden said of connecting with his new teammates. “We’re all excited. It’s gonna be a huge year for the Chicago Bears and I can’t wait to get to work with those guys.”

Burden made it clear that his confidence is what’s driving him to prove doubters wrong as he looks to have an explosive rookie year under new head coach Ben Johnson.

“I’ve just had the same attitude since I’ve been playing sports,” Burden said. “As long as I believe in myself, I’m gonna handle business.”
