Marcedes Lewis thinks Caleb Williams, Ben Johnson great for each other

1 month agoJack McDonaugh

19-year veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis joined ‘The Herd’ with Colin Cowherd on Thursday of last week to discuss his NFL career, his future, Aaron Rodgers’ future and Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson working together in the upcoming season.

Lewis sat down with the sports personality to give some great perspective of the evolution of the game over nearly 20 years and the Bears’ turbulent 2024 season, particularly the struggles of Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

“In his defense .. the firing of coaches, it was a lot going on. He was just trying to do the best job he could in trying to take on all the information,” Lewis stated about Williams.

In the one-on-one Lewis wanted it to make clear that Williams’ struggles were nothing to worry about. Those who watched Bears games know Williams showed some flashes of his innate abilities and raw talent. The veteran tight end shared similar thoughts and thinks the addition of Johnson can only be a positive for the star quarterback.

“Ben is going to be able to get in there and get into his mind, and kind of create this offense around Caleb,” Lewis said.

It is something the soon-to-be sophomore quarterback will desperately be looking for in his 2nd campaign, stability and consistency.

The hype surrounding the Bears and their offseason is once again at a fever pitch. With recent acquisitions in free agency and the bolstering of both the offense and defense, and the Bears signing the most coveted head coaching candidate, Bears fans are once again all in on a renewed hope of the Bears turning the corner as a franchise.

“I’m looking forward to watching it,” Lewis said about the new relationship between Johnson and Williams.

Lewis emphatically said that he will be returning for his 20th season while on the show. Where that will be is yet to be seen, but Lewis is hoping to come back for a third season with the Bears.

“Of course, that’s the best-case scenario,” Lewis responded when Cowherd asked if he would like to go to Chicago.

Lewis realizes he wouldn’t be the first option TE anywhere he goes, but the experience and wisdom he can provide in leadership and the tight end position is unquestionable. The 40 year old thinks he still has some juice left in the tank and can contribute in any way he can at the professional level.
