Looking back at Sammy Sosa’s best moments ahead of his return to Cubs Convention
Trying to narrow down a list of Sammy Sosa’s best moments as a Cub is no small feat.
Mainly because of what he’s done and meant for the franchise, whittling it down to five meant some were going to be left out. But one thing is certain, this weekend should provide a memory that will have a strong case to be on any future list.
Sosa will make a long-awaited return to the franchise at Cubs Convention this weekend at the Sheraton Grand. It’ll be the first time he is back with the Cubs since his last season in Chicago in 2004.

His return will spark a massive ovation, arguably the biggest since the 2017 fan fest, when the Cubs were the defending World Series champions.
For now, though, we present five of his best moments as a Cub. Surely, there’ll be some healthy discourse on some that were left off. But here’s the five (not in any rank or order). You can watch the full video of the highlights on the Marquee Sports Network app.
- Sosa hits an MLB record 20 home runs in June of 1998
- Home runs no. 61 and 62 against the Brewers on September 13, 1998
- Sosa runs onto the field with an American flag after 9/11 on September 27, 2001
- His game-tying home run in the bottom of the 9th inning in the 2003 NLCS against the Marlins
