Dianna Russini, senior NFL insider for The Athletic, reported Thursday afternoon that the Bears “are among teams making calls in an attempt to trade up” from the No. 10 overall pick, per sources.
Russini also reported that teams believe the Bears want Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. Rumors surrounding potential trades with the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 5 overall or one pick earlier, with the New England Patriots at No. 4, have heated up as the draft nears.
Jeanty rushed for 2,601 yards with 29 touchdowns last season at Boise State, as he finished runner-up in Heisman Trophy voting.
Jeanty told media Wednesday in Green Bay that the Bears trading up for him would be “not a bad decision.” Betting odds also shifted dramatically Thursday morning to favor Jeanty coming to Chicago, jumping from +300 to a favorite at -180 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Russini later reported via sources that the Jaguars, New York Giants (No. 3), Denver Broncos (No. 20) and Houston Texans (No. 25) also are jockeying for position in the first round.
Poles did predict Tuesday that this draft would be “a little wild.” If all this comes to pass, he’ll be correct.
