Ashton Jeanty sends NFL GMs strong message one week before 2025 draft

Ashton Jeanty, considered one of the top players in the 2025 NFL Draft, has come out with a message for league GMs one week before the picks are made.

The 2024 Heisman Trophy runner-up is on many teams’ list — including potentially the Chicago Bears at No. 10 — entering the draft. Rightfully so, too, as the Boise State running back posted record numbers and a backfield display that hasn’t been for years in college football.

Jeanty opened his letter — posted Wednesday on The Players Tribune — by referencing the running back position’s resurgence in the NFL, with Saquon Barkley’s dominant 2024 season carrying the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl championship.

“I watched it (the Super Bowl) and I thought something different. I thought, ‘That could be me,’ ” Jeanty wrote.

Jeanty certainty isn’t low on confidence, and if he truly believes he can produce similar results to Barkley — who became just the ninth player to rush for 2,000-plus yards in an NFL regular season — then GMs should take notice.

Writing the letter was bold move, but it shouldn’t surprise many, as Jeanty’s confidence and 2024 production are undeniable. He also closed his message with a strong conclusion: “It’s TACKLE football … you know what I’m saying? I’d draft the guy they can’t tackle.”

Perhaps Jeanty’s message will help sway Bears general manager Ryan Poles and coach Ben Johnson to pick him. Pairing Jeanty with D’Andre Swift would bring the two-back system that Johnson employed with so much success in Detroit last season to Chicago this year.
