Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel believes Bears won 2025 draft

There’s a running joke that the Chicago Bears always “win” the offseason – even if that doesn’t translate to wins on the field.

In 2023, they acquired DJ Moore in a trade with the Carolina Panthers, a move that netted them a bevy of picks. In 2024, Chicago traded for veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen and used Carolina’s pick to draft quarterback Caleb Williams first overall.

This offseason, the Bears hired one of the most coveted head coaches in Ben Johnson and set about reshaping their roster.

Now, according to former Bears quarterback Chase Daniel, Johnson and Ryan Poles were the winners of the 2025 NFL Draft.

“I’m going to go to the team that always wins the offseason,” Daniel said on FS1’s show ‘The Facility’. “The Chicago Bears, to me, had an insane draft. Not only did it start with the draft, it started with free agency. When you go out there and you get the highest paid center in Drew Dalman … you trade for Joe Thuney from the Chiefs, you trade for Jonah Jackson from the Rams and then you go out and you draft Colston Loveland.”

Daniel described why Loveland is a perfect fit for Johnson’s offense, even with Cole Kmet already on the roster.

“Ben Johnson (uses) a 12 personnel offense,” Daniel said. “One back (and) two tight ends. Cole Kmet, Colston Loveland, run-pass options out of this 12 personnel … both of these tight ends stretch the field.”

Daniel’s praise didn’t stop with the Bears’ first-round pick. He is also enamored with second-round pick Luther Burden III, a wide receiver from Missouri.

“I thought no player fell a little bit more than Luther Burden … he will start day one in the slot,” Daniel said. “He’s like a Deebo Samuel for me. Get the ball in (his hands). He can do so many things with the bubble screen, something that takes pressure off of the quarterback.

“Then you put him with Rome Odunze and DJ Moore. Ben Johnson is doing a heck of a job in the offseason.”

For a franchise that’s known more for their defensive history than offensive prowess, the Bears are looking to change that narrative.

“This is and always has been a defensive franchise,” Daniel said. “They are saying with their first three picks … this is an offensive football team. We need to change the dynamics of it. And they have a plan to build around Caleb Williams.
