NFL Power Rankings Week 12: Lions at the top, Chiefs slip, Bills rise and Bears continue to tumble
Welp, the Chiefs finally lost. They were playing right on the edge most of the season, finding ways to win without always looking great doing it. The Bills had their number on Sunday, with a real home-field advantage playing in Buffalo.
That means we can finally take the defending champs out of the top slot. We held firm to the belief that the king stays king until a successful challenge gets made, even as the Lions surged to the top spot with a run of dominant play.

The Bills also slid into the top two thanks to a recent tear and evidence that Josh Allen is in total command.
We konw most everyone skips the intro and scrolls to see where their ranks, so we won’t make this one too long.
Now let’s take a look at how the NFL shakes out after 11 weeks of the 2024 season:
1. Detroit Lions (9-1): Lions are the NFL’s resident bully. Beating everyone up.
2. Buffalo Bills (9-2): Josh Allen is so, so good. And in complete command.
3. Kansas City Chiefs (9-1): After getting beat by Buffalo, Pat Mahomes told Josh Allen the QBs will “do it again” this season. He’s probably right. With a lot more at stake.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (8-2): The Eagles are finding their form. Possibly with the most talent roster on this planet.
5. Pittsburgh Steelers (8-2): Mike Tomlin just wins football games. Can’t believe any Steelers fan ever wanted him gone.
6. Minnesota Vikings (8-2): Minnesota has looked vulnerable lately, but they keep winning.
7. Baltimore Ravens (7-4): Ravens lose without allowing a touchdown. Tough defense all around. That’s what Ravens-Steelers is all about.
8. Green Bay Packers (7-3): Probably should’ve lost to Chicago, but Green Bay got a hand on the kick.
9. Los Angeles Chargers (7-3): The Chargers ran one more time over kicking a decisive field goal and got a touchdown. They also called a timeout before a Hail Mary. Bears fans must’ve felt like they were in a fever dream.
10. Houston Texans (7-4): Texans had to beat their in-state rival and did exactly that.
11. Washington Commanders (7-4): Jayden Daniels is awesome. The whole Commanders squad? Less so. Not sure they’re top tier.
12. Denver Broncos (6-5): There aren’t many rookie QBs playing right now. Bo Nix is one, and he looks pretty darn good.
13. Arizona Cardinals (6-4): Cardinals hare playing well, but we’ve seen it all fall apart for them before.
14. Atlanta Falcons (6-5): Falcons got worked in Denver. No other way to say it. Raheem Morris better get things turn around over the bye.
15. Seattle Seahawks (5-5): Mike Macdonald showed on Sunday that the Seahawks made the right choice.
16. San Francisco 49ers (5-5): We are ranking by how a team looks on paper. It’s about how they play. The 49ers aren’t playing well.
17. Los Angeles Rams (5-5): Matt Stafford + Cooper Kupp + Puka Nacua = fun football.
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-6): If Mike Evans comes back, the Bucs are back to being good again.
19. Cincinnati Bengals (4-7): Cincy is the toughest team to place in these rankings. So talented. So many bad losses.
20. Indianapolis Colts (5-6): Maybe getting benched helped Anthony Richardson turn a corner. Maybe.
21. Chicago Bears (4-6): First a Hail Mary. Then a blocked field goal. In four weeks, all losses. Brutal stretch.
22. Miami Dolphins (4-6): Tua looked like Tua. Now let’s see him play that way against someone other than the Raiders.
23. New Orleans Saints (4-7): Taysom Hill went OFF against the Browns. A rare dual threat QB/skill player who actually worked out.
24. Dallas Cowboys (3-7): Cowboys free fall continues. It’ll be a long two months ’til season’s end.
25. New England Patriots (3-8): Patriots aren’t a good team. But they might have a good quarterback.
26. Carolina Panthers (3-7): Carolina will carry on with Bryce Young at quarterback. That’s the right call. Season is lost. See what you’ve got.
27. New York Jets (3-8): Father time is undefeated. Looks like he’s coming for Aaron Rodgers.
28. Tennessee Titans (2-8): Get back in the quarterback market, Titans. You know you have to.
29. Cleveland Browns (2-8): The Browns always play like this. But heightened expectations have made this season so much worse on a fan base that has been through a lot.
30. Las Vegas Raiders (2-8): Statement of the obvious: Antonio Pierce may not have been the right choice.
31. Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9): All the heat’s on Doug Pederson here, but Trent Baalke isn’t a good GM. Still living off those 49ers glory days.
32. New York Giants (2-8): The super-sad, way-too-long Daniel Jones era is finally over. Also, note to agents: stop adding injury guarantees to deals. Teams will just end up sitting your client.
