The Bears are looking to improve an underperforming offense, so it’s not a huge shock they’d reach out to the man who calls plays for the NFL’s highest-ranked in total yards.

The team submitted a request to interview Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken for its head coach job, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday afternoon.
The Ravens are in the wild-card round of the NFL playoffs, so Monken can’t be virtually interviewed until three days after Baltimore’s game, which takes place Jan. 11.
Monken has been Ravens offensive coordinator since 2023. He has the luxury or working with Lamar Jackson, but the innovative play caller has set up a system that helps Jackson thrive in a high-powered offense with a virtually unstoppable rushing attack featuring Derrick Henry.
The Ravens led the league with 424 yards per game and were third with 30.5 points per game during the 2024 season. Monken has a history as an NFL offensive coordinator, with stops in Tampa Bay and Cleveland. He was also a central figure at the University of Georgia from 2020-22, when the Bulldogs re-emerged as a true national powerhouse. He has only been a head coach once, at Southern Mississippi from 2013-15. He resigned from that job to take the OC gig in Tampa Bay.
Monken’s interview request joins a long list of them made by the Bears one Monday. Other names include, Detroit’s Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, Arizona’s Drew Petzing, Pittsburgh’s Arthur Smith, Minnesota’s Brian Flores and the New York Giants’ Mike Kafka, Dallas’ Mike McCarthy and Miami’s Anthony Weaver.
