NFL rumors: Colston Loveland likely trade-up target before Bears picked him
The Chicago Bears might not have been the only team to covet Michigan tight end Colston Loveland in the top 10 of the 2025 NFL Draft, per NFL Network senior insider Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport appeared on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday to discuss the recent draft, and he told McAfee that multiple teams had called up to try and get into the top 10. Those calls, however, stopped once the Bears selected Loveland at No. 10.
“So before the draft, I’m starting to hear that a couple of teams are really, really active trying to trade up,” Rapoport said. “I heard the Texans were, and the Broncos were. And no one is ever going to tell you who they are trying to trade up for because, obviously, they don’t want someone else taking him.”
“So, the only thing I can tell is when the calls stop,” Rapoport said. “The Bears take Colston Loveland at 10, and a bunch of calls stopped. So I was like, ‘Wow!’ ”

Loveland, who, McAfee described as “the belle of the ball,” was the consensus No. 2 tight end on pretty much every NFL draft expert’s big board. But to the surprise of many, he went before Penn State’s Tyler Warren, who later ended up with the Indianapolis Colts at No. 14.
The Bears hope Loveland could be a steal, with coach Ben Johnson comparing the Michigan product to Sam LaPorta, who earned All-Pro honors during Johnson’s tenure as the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator.
Loveland finished his career in Ann Arbor as a two-time All-Big Ten selection, an All-American and top three in program history in career touchdowns, receptions and receiving yards among tight ends. Loveland was the Blue and Maize’s leading receiver in their national championship game win over Washington during the 2023-24 season.
Bears fans hope the Idaho native can bring similar success to Solider Field.
