Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham loses out on Titans GM job

1 month agoScott Bair

UPDATE: Bears assisant GM Ian Cunningham did not get the Titans general manager job he interviewed for twice recently. The gig went to Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi, in an announcement Tennessee made on Friday evening. Cunningham nearly got that job when it was open a few years ago, but lost to Ran Carthon that time.

That was the only know GM job Cunningham was up for during this cycle, though the Raiders’ search isn’t that old to this point.

UPDATE: The Titans announced that Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham completed his second interview for Tennessee’s vacant general manage job.

Ryan Poles said that assistant general manager Ian Cunningham would be part of the Bears coaching search.

That’s an obvious inclusion, though it came with a caveat.

“I think it’s really important to allow Ian to go through his own interview process,” the Bears GM said, “if that pops up.”

It has. Cunningham interviewed with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, that team announced. He’ll reportedly get a second interview, too.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke that information on Monday afternoon. The list also included Kansas City’s Mike Borgonzi and Tampa Bay’s John Spytek. The report also stated that there will be others who move on to the second round.

The Titans are searching to replace Ran Carthon, who was let go after two seasons in Tennessee. The new GM will inherit head coach Brian Callahan and the No. 1 overall NFL draft pick, which was earned with a 3-14 season in 2024.

Cunningham has been with the Bears since 2022, coming over to be Poles’ top assistant. He was a high ranking official with the Eagles before that, finishing at the Eagles director of player personnel. Cunningham is well respected throughout the league and at Halas Hall, where he plays a massive roles in most every Bears transaction. As with most assistant GMs, Cunningham is typically the negotiator in trade talks.

He has interview with the Titans before, but lost out on a job that went to Carthon. He was also a finalist for the Washington Commanders’ GM job, which went to Adam Peters.
