NFL rumors: Bears seek Mike McCarthy interview permission from Cowboys
Bears fans will have measured takes with this one, I’m sure.
As Ryan Poles and Kevin Warren build out their list of head coaching candidates to interview in the coming weeks, one interesting — and possibly controversial — name was added to the list Monday afternoon by ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Mike McCarthy.
McCarthy is one of the most well-known coaches in the game today, as the 61-year-old has spent most of the last 20 years leading an NFL team.
First up was Green Bay, where he was the head coach of the Packers from 2006 to 2018. He won more than 61 percent of his games during that time and took the team to the playoffs nine times, including a Super Bowl win in 2010.
Given the Packers’ success during his tenure, McCarthy’s name might not carry a positive note with Bears fans.

McCarthy was fired during the middle of the 2018 season and caught on as the Dallas Cowboys’ head coach in 2020.
He is 49-35 as coach of the Cowboys over the last five seasons, making the playoffs three times but going just 1-3 in that time.
After three consecutive 12-5 finishes, McCarthy and the Cowboys took a step back in 2024 with a 7-10 record.
Since the Cowboys are out of the playoffs, the Bears could interview McCarthy this week if Dallas allows it.
