Off The Mound: Jon “Boog” Sciambi had a memorable encounter with Harry Caray

3 years agoStaff Report

Cubs play-by-play commentator Jon “Boog” Sciambi joined Off The Mound with Ryan Dempster on Friday on Marquee Sports Network to discuss his excitement of joining the Cubs booth and how he will feel being in the same booth that Cubs legend Harry Caray was in for 15 years.

Sciambi met Caray near the end of Caray’s stint in Chicago in 1997 when Sciambi was broadcasting his first ever road game when Sciambi was with the Marlins.

“I finish the pregame show. I have to use the facilities. I finish, and I have to come back and do the lineups. I run to the press box men’s room…two urinals and one stall…I finish washing my hands. There’s no one in there. In walks Harry Caray to the stall. Now, I’m drying my hands. Now, as I’m drying my hands, from the stall, out loud, not to me but just out loud, I hear, ‘I got so many clothes on, I can’t find my *pause*.'”

Sciambi admits that he tells this story on repeat.

“I went back and told everyone I could possibly tell. That is my only interaction, really interpersonally ever, with Harry Caray…That’s true. That is a true story.”

Tune in every Friday for a new episode of Off the Mound with Ryan Dempster on Marquee Sports Network.
