Willson Contreras exited Saturday’s game against the Diamondbacks with right hamstring tightness in the 3rd inning. 

“Just gonna call it a hamstring strain right now,” manager David Ross said after the game. “Continue to get him checked out. The doctors were looking at him during the game and we’ll see what feedback we get.”

The Venezuelan, who was the designated hitter, singled with one out in the inning and then stole second base. After that, Seiya Suzuki laced a ball down the third base line that was ruled foul. Contreras began to run and stopped when it was called foul. He spoke briefly with third base coach Willie Harris and then he motioned to the dugout. David Ross and trainer Nick Frangella came out to check on him and he walked off the field under his own power. 

“He just called us out,” Ross said. “I don’t know when exactly it happened, I haven’t spoken to him directly. But definitely was some tightness in him and wanted to be precautionary.”

Contreras has dealt with hamstring injuries in both 2017 and 2019. 

“Just precautionary,” Ross said. “Doctors [are] checking him out. Definitely something going on we’ll find out how extensive.”

Rafael Ortega pinch ran for him and scored on a Suzuki double. Contreras was 1-for-2 on the day.
