2 years agoKarli Bell

International play for women’s basketball is about to kick into gear for some Sky players while others got right to work in the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

Chicago Sky’s Kahleah Copper played for Team USA, Emma Meesseman and Julie Allemand played for Belgium and Li Yueru played for China.

All made it to the Quarter-Finals before Belgium fell to Australia and finished 3rd in group play. They recorded wins against Korea, Puerto Rico and Bosnia-Herzegovina. However, against Bosnia in the third quarter, Meesseman left the game with a left calf injury, leading to a withdrawal from the competition.

Meesseman averaged 6 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 6 assists over her 4 games of play. Allemand averaged 10 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists over 6 games.

Copper also sustained a hip injury in the Quarter-Finals against Serbia in the first half. She stayed out for the rest of the tournament.

Team USA advanced to the Finals and picked up its 4th straight FIBA Women’s World Cup with its 83-61 win over China. The win qualified Team USA for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Copper averaged 9.5 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists over her 6 games of play. Yueru averaged 10 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1 assist over 8 games.
