Sky trade Kahleah Copper to Phoenix for draft capital
Three-time All Star and 2021 WNBA Finals MVP Kahleah Copper is leaving the Windy City through a trade with the Phoenix Mercury.
The Sky traded away Copper and in return received Phoenix’s No. 3 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, a second round pick in 2025, first round pick in 2026, the rights to swap second round picks in 2026, forward Brianna Turner and forward Michaela Onyenwere.

Copper spent 6 seasons in Chicago, bringing a championship to the Sky in 2021. In her tenure with the Sky, Copper is 4th in points (2,676), 2-point field goals (990), 3-point field goals (201) and free throws (495) and 5th in total rebounds (799).
Copper led the scoring effort for the Sky in 2023 with an average of 18.7 a game.
The Sky made some more moves in free agency with the signing of guard Diamond DeShields to a one-year contract. DeShields was a part of the 2021 Championship team but sat out 2023 due to a knee injury.
With Copper now gone, new head coach Teresa Weatherspoon has DeShields, Dana Evans, Marina Mabrey, Lindsay Allen, Elizabeth Williams, Isabelle Harrison, Brianna Turner, Michaela Onyenwere, Sike Koné and Li Yeuru on the roster.
The Sky also signed guards Taya Davis-Reimer, Chennedy Carter and Kysre Gondrezick to training camp contracts.
