Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong overwhelmed by Tokyo fans chanting his name
If Pete Crow-Armstrong wasn’t already baseball’s next global star, he sure is now.
During his at-bat in the eighth inning of the Cubs’ MLB Tokyo Series exhibition win over the Yomiuri Giants Sunday, fans in the sold-out crowd began a loud “P-C-A!” chant, filling the Tokyo Dome with the sound of Crow-Armstrong’s nickname.
“Coming across the world to have that happen is one of the best feelings ever,” Crow-Armstrong told Marquee Sports Network’s Taylor McGregor of the moment he heard the chants. “That was still the coolest thing that’s probably happened on a baseball field for me. The reception I’ve gotten here has been way more than I could have asked for.”
PCA was already having himself a day on offense – his leadoff double in the fifth inning kickstarted a 4-run frame for the Cubs and he scored after stealing third base. Fans got to see the excitement of his game up close, and they made sure he heard how into it they were when he stepped into the batter’s box again.

Crow-Armstrong, well-known for his web gems in center field and his intuitive baserunning, is now making a name for himself on at the plate with the Cubs after slashing a monstrous .519/.500/1.000 in 27 spring training at-bats so far. The 22-year-old, who came to the Cubs organization in the Javier Báez trade in 2021, is set to begin his first full MLB season as the starting center fielder when the Cubs take on the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 18 in Tokyo.

“If it was loud the last couple of days, I’m sure that is going to be a spectacle,” Crow-Armstrong said of watching Shota Imanaga face Shohei Ohtani to begin the 2025 season. “Whatever energy is involved in those matchups is more than deserved for those guys … it’s super special.”
