Cliff Floyd predicts Michael Busch’s ceiling with Cubs
Michael Busch’s hot start for the Chicago Cubs has put the league on notice. The 27-year-old first baseman has slashed .316/.381/.999 with five homers and 15 RBI to begin the 2025 season.
Marquee Sports Network analyst Cliff Floyd, a 17-year former MLB slugger, has noticed Busch’s improvements and believes this great start can become a great season if he can keep making adjustments.
“Now he understands the adjustments to the adjustments,” Floyd said Sunday on “Cubs Postgame Live!” “When you get to the point where you are adjusting to the pitchers and now they are adjusting to you, that’s when you really start to do some damage. He’s that good.”
Busch, a 2019 first-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers, is in his second season with the Cubs. They acquired him in a 2024 trade, and he was solid in his first season at Wrigley Field, slashing .248/.335/.775 with 21 homers and 65 RBI in 152 games in 2024.

Floyd believes Busch can be this type of player long term in Chicago.
“He’s going to be a guy in this game for a long time, hopefully playing for the Cubs and doing his thing,” Floyd said. “He can hit foul pole to foul pole, left field to right field — he can do it all. So, when you have that type of potential, then you shouldn’t be down, hitting .240. He should be where he’s at right now.”
Busch’s latest heroics came Saturday, when he hit a first-inning RBI single and a second-inning solo homer in a 6-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Wrigley.
Busch, who is 5-for-9 with one home run and three RBI in the series against the Diamondbacks so far, was a consensus Top 100 prospect before he arrived to the Cubs. Floyd believes Busch finally is ready to live up to that billing.
“He should be around .300 with 25 homers,” Floyd said. “I think that’s where he lives.”
Cubs fans certainly hope Floyd is right and that Busch can be penciled in for a .300 batting average and 25 homers for years to come.
