What’s next? Who to target in free agency after Bears acquire Jonah Jackson
The Chicago Bears have started their moves to reconstruct the offensive line with the reported trade to acquire offensive lineman Jonah Jackson from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a 2025 6th-round draft pick.
With this move, it could be a signal that there are bigger moves on the way.
“I think that this influences the idea that, ‘Ok we got maybe one in the bag already.’ Is there a number that they’d like to hit specifically with free agents for the offensive line?” Mike Norman said on the Bears on the Marquee podcast. “Maybe you get one other one. ‘Ok we got a couple offensive linemen. Now we fill some other holes.’
“Maybe there’s defensive linemen that you want to look at. Maybe offensively there’s some holes. We’ve talked a lot about the running back market. I think this is a prelude to the moves that are going to happen, but I think you need to have some big swings here. In particular in free agency, I think this is a prelude to a bigger move that’s going to happen on that offensive line.”
One of the biggest needs on the offensive line is who will be snapping the ball to second-year quarterback Caleb Williams.
“Give him an experienced veteran center,” Carmen Vitali said. “This is what I wish for Caleb Williams, because a veteran center can do so much for a young developing player. He can take so much off of the plate of what Caleb has to decide on pre snap.”
Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen with NFL free agency officially starting on Monday, March 10.
