Off The Mound: Jed Hoyer shares his vision for the Cubs future and understanding expectations of fans

3 years agoStaff Report

Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer joined Off The Mound with Ryan Dempster Friday on Marquee Sports Network and shared his vision for the Cubs, discussed the organization’s path to sustained success and the expectations of Cubs fans.

Hoyer has been with the Cubs since 2011 and is proud of what the team has accomplished during his time as general manager, including winning the 2016 World Series. Now, in his new leadership role as president of baseball operations, Hoyer is excited to continue to build on the work he and many others in the front office have put in over the years.

“The goals haven’t changed,” Hoyer said. “The goals have to be to run an amazing organization that is cutting edge with everything that we do. To scout and develop and have the best technology and to ultimately build an organization that is able to produce a playoff caliber team every single year.”

Cubs fans have witnessed their team reach the postseason 5 out of the last 6 seasons. Expectations for Cubs fans have changed and Hoyer is proud of that.

“You want those high expectations,” Hoyer said. “The Ricketts family is a huge part of that. We’ve had significant resources and I also think that the fan base being patient with us while we executed a plan that was painful. We lost 101 games and 96 games and had some lean seasons to build this. So, the fans were patient, the Ricketts supported it and I think as a result we were able to run a plan and a process that ended up changing those expectations.”
