Anthony Rizzo walk off leads virtual Cubs to win over Orioles

5 years agoStaff Report

Anthony Rizzo provided just the offensive spark the Cubs needed — and he did it all without hitting the ball out of the infield.

Rizzo hit a hard ground ball that ricocheted off Orioles first baseman Chris Davis’ glove with the bases loaded to drive in Jason Kipnis and give the Cubs a 7-6 walk-off, 11 inning win over Baltimore. The Cubs improved to 36-27 and sit 2.5 games back of the Reds, who they play next in a four-game series.

José Quintana rallied from a shaky, 3-run 1st inning, striking out 10 over 6 innings of work. He helped his case at the plate, too, driving in 3 with a double. Anthony Rizzo was 3-for-6 with his game-winning RBI and Ian Happ was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and 2 runs.

The Cubs start their four game set with the Reds at 1 p.m. on Thursday on our Facebook page. Catch today’s game here:
