Why Ben Johnson-Caleb Williams Bears pairing excites one NFL analyst
There is a lot of optimism and excitement surrounding Bears head coach Ben Johnson and what he can provide with second-year quarterback Caleb Williams and the offense.
Johnson has been described as a ‘perfectionist’ by Lions running back David Montgomery and Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has stated he’s ‘one of the best coaches I’ve ever had.’
The Bears are looking to improve their offensive stats from last season as they ranked near the bottom of almost every offensive category including total yards (32nd), passing (31st) and rushing (22nd).

As former NFL quarterback Jordan Palmer mentioned on The Rich Eisen Show on the Roku Channel, Palmer loves the pairing between Johnson and Williams in Chicago.
“Caleb is going to be a superstar. However you want to chalk up his rookie year, on his standard, I met him as a sophomore in high school. He’s kind of been unbelievable every year,” Palmer said of Williams. “Then this is the first failure year. You look at the stats, I don’t think they were nearly as bad as everybody thought they were. This is the first year that didn’t go awesome for him really since he was a little kid.
“I think he’s going to be hungrier and driven…I think Caleb and Ben Johnson and Ben coming in and taking ‘here’s what worked with Jared Goff but now I get…think about it, it worked for Jared Goff and some great pieces in that Detroit huddle. But now, he’s got a guy with essentially top tier mobility, that’s going to really change that. We haven’t seen a Ben Johnson offense with a quarterback that is mobile, but we’ve only seen Ben Johnson offenses that are like Top 5 every year. I’m going to be fascinated to study what Ben Johnson is going to do.”
Bears fans would agree that they are looking forward to see how Johnson can find untapped potential with Williams and the Bears offense for 2025.
