Devin Hester wants Bears QB Caleb Williams to improve in one key area
Devin Hester believes “the sky’s the limit” for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams … if he can make one change in 2025.
“I would say … just get rid of the ball a little quicker,” the Pro Football Hall of Famer told “Up and Adams” host Kay Adams on Thursday. “I know he makes plays with his legs, but holding the ball a little bit, sometimes you got to let it go. …
“I think that comes with the experience from last year, with the speed of the game. If this year, he can get rid of the ball quicker, make that decision a little quicker … the sky’s the limit for him.”
Williams was 5-12 as the Bears’ starter in his rookie season, completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 3,541 yards while adding 489 more with his legs. The 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick threw for 20 touchdowns with just six interceptions and rewrote the Bears’ record book for a rookie QB, all while being sacked the most in the NFL (68).

Williams now gains Ben Johnson as his play-caller for next season. Johnson, the Bears’ new coach, is coming off a very successful tenure in Detroit, where he coordinated a top-five Lions offense each of the three seasons, and had top-ranked offense (33.2 points per game) in 2024.
Hester is excited about Johnson’s arrival in the Windy City: “I love that pick, that they got the OC from Detroit. That’s the type of offense we need.”
Bears fans certainly hope Williams has a career just as good as four-time All-Pro selection Hester did. He’ll need more weapons, though, which the Bears will look to add in the NFL draft later this month.
“Up & Adams” airs on Marquee Sports Network every weekday at 10 a.m. CT. Watch Adams’ full interview with Hester below.
