Cubs’ Dansby Swanson and wife, Mallory, announce pregnancy

6 months agoTom Prizeman

Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson and his wife, Chicago Stars FC and US Women’s National team forward, Mallory Swanson announced their pregnancy on Wednesday.

The Swansons announced their pregnancy on Instagram Wednesday evening, writing in a post “Our greatest blessing” alongside several pictures of the couple wearing white and holding sonogram photos.

The announcement explains Mallory’s absence from the Chicago Stars. The team announced in March that Swanson would miss significant time due to personal reasons, and she has not played in a game for the club this season. The USWNT forward will also miss five friendlies for the national team this summer.

This will be the couple’s first child, and several Cubs teammates were quick to share in the excitement for the couple, with Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon commenting, “Congrats guys!!! Can’t wait to meet my new best friend!”

The Swansons have been the marquee sports couple in Chicago since Dansby’s arrival to the Windy City in 2023, when he signed a seven year, 177-million-dollar contract with the Cubs. Mallory first arrived in Chicago in 2021 in a trade from Sky Blue FC. Dansby has a World Series title, and a pair of Gold Gloves and All-Star game appearances to his name, while Mallory scored the game-winning goal in the 2024 Olympic Gold Medal match and also won a FIFA World Cup title.

Dansby has seven home runs and 20 RBI in 37 games with a .236/.288/.439 slash line so far for the Cubs in 2025.

Mallory will likely miss the entirety of the 2025 season, after missing most of the 2023 campaign for Chicago due to a knee injury she suffered on international duty with the USWNT.

Dansby and the Cubs return to action on Friday, as they travel to New York to take on the Mets at Citi Field.
