Chicago Red Stars sign goalkeeper Halle Mackiewicz
The Chicago Red Stars made some offseason additions, signing goalkeeper Halle Mackiewicz to a 1-year deal for the 2025 NWSL season.
Mackiewicz joins Chicago from Sweden where they played and started in 10 games for Trelleborgs FF, but they have a lot of familiarity with the city of Chicago.
“My family is from the Chicago area, and I have grown up rooting for Chicago sports teams, so I feel very blessed to now be a part of one,” Mackiewicz said in a statement. “Looking forward to getting out there and joining this great team and fan base!”
Originally from Colorado, Mackiewicz played for the youth club Real Colorado, the former club of Red Stars head coach Lorne Donaldson. They then went on to play for the Clemson Tigers and played in 48 games while recording an average of .923 goals against. In their final year, Mackiewicz put up 13 shutouts which broke a 24-year-old record of 12 shutouts in a single season.
“We are happy to have Halle join the Chicago Red Stars,” Red Stars general manager Richard Feuz said in a statement. “They are a promising talent that we believe can provide us with depth at the goalkeeper position, while they develop their skills to succeed at the professional level.”
The Chicago Red Stars are still waiting for their 2025 schedule to drop but the NWSL season is typically slated to start in March.
