Chicago Stars FC part ways with head coach Lorne Donaldson midseason

Chicago Stars FC announced Wednesday that Lorne Donaldson no longer will serve as the club’s head coach.
Masaki Hemmi, formerly the team’s first assistant coach, was promoted to interim head coach while the Stars search for a full-time replacement.
The Stars hired Donaldson in December 2023, and he compiled a 11-19-2 record in one-plus seasons at the helm.
The Stars currently sit last in the NWSL with a 1-5 record and a league-worst minus-11 goal differential. They have scored just three goals in six games so far this season.
“We are grateful to Lorne Donaldson for the culture, respect and sense of self-belief he helped build within our squad,” Stars GM Richard Feuz said in a statement released by the club. “We appreciate his work and wish him the best for the future.”
Prior to his time in Chicago, Donaldson was head coach of the Jamaican Women’s National Team and served as the president and executive coaching director of Real Colorado, a youth soccer club.
Hemmi joined Donaldson’s coaching staff in January 2024 after serving as an assistant coach and director of player personnel with New Mexico United in the United Soccer League. He played at the collegiate level for the University of New Mexico after a two-year stint at Colorado School of Mines.
