Cubs 360 Daily: Billy Williams on Jackie Robinson

4 years agoStaff Report

Cubs legend Billy Williams joined Cole Wright on Cubs 360 Daily to discuss baseball’s societal impact as well as just how much Williams misses watching baseball.

“Especially this time, I think baseball takes away a lot from everyday life from a lot of people. When they can go to a baseball game and just let their hair down. Forget about their problems, just go out and see a baseball game… I think here in Chicago, especially after we just had the convention in Chicago and to go to spring training after a cold winter in Chicago, everybody looked forward to the summer and playing baseball.”

Williams also spoke about Jackie Robinson and one of his first encounters with the barrier-breaking baseball player.

“When I first came up to the big leagues, Jackie was doing some broadcasting…We would just sit around and talk about baseball. Looking at Jackie…you could see the scars in his face from everything he went through in the game of baseball…”
