Cubs’ David Ross, Yu Darvish named as award finalists
Next week, a pair of Cubs may be taking home some serious hardware.
Yu Darvish was named a finalist for the National League Cy Young Award while David Ross is among the Top 3 for Manager of the Year.
Ross was dealt a serious curveball in his first year at the helm with the virus and a shortened season. But he helped lead the Cubs to the team’s first division title since 2017.
The BBWAA (Baseball Writers’ Association of America) voted Ross as a Top 3 finalist for the Manager of the year Award alongside San Diego’s Jayce Tingler and Miami’s Don Mattingly. The winner will be unveiled Nov. 10.
Darvish is going head-to-head against Cincinnati’s Trevor Bauer and New York’s Jacob deGrom for the top pitching honor in the league, which will be announced Nov. 11.
The 34-year-old right-hander posted phenomenal numbers in his third season with the Cubs, leading the league with 8 wins with a 2.01 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 93 strikeouts in 76 innings. Darvish allowed just 5 homers and walked only 14 batters across his 12 starts.
